Last night, electro pop duo Love Scenes, a buffaBLOG favorite, brought their elegant and soothing sound Filigrees Gallery & Boutique. Although still a relatively new band, the Love Scenes have successfully shown they can back the romanticism of The Stars and the intimacy of The xx with danceable synths and beats. The more you see them play, the more it becomes clear that their ever growing confidence is creating a certain swagger that shines in every song.
Rarely overpowering, but always front and center, Leah's subtle, hushed vocals on songs like "Try" and "Heavy" always manage to float like a warm breeze through TJ's building layers of sound, while "Insomnia" gives both of them the chance to open things up on what is becoming a stand out song for the duo. Their wisely selected cover of The xx's "Heart Skipped a Beat" perfectly fit in with the delicate melodies that the band delivered throughout the show, not to mention TJ was able to share the mic on the song's back and forth vocals. Opening for Love Scenes, Soundshaman, aka Rami Abu-Sitta of Dotsun Moon, created ethereal melodies that weaved their way in and out of his complex, spacey ambience.
Despite the difficult driving last night, Love Scenes and Soundshaman rewarded those who braced the elements with a night of emotional electronica and indie pop, providing a bit of warmth to the bitter cold of the Buffalo night.
